The other day I was in Best Buy and I noticed the MagicJack product that I'd seen on TV several times. Since I was looking for a VOIP application I decided to give it a try.

What is Magic Jack -- My Review
Magic Jack is a small plastic device a little bit smaller than a credit card that plugs into the USB port on your computer. The purpose of Magic Jack is to place telephone calls through the Internet. There is also a telephone plug on the device. I paid at Best Buy for MagicJack and the first year of service. This includes unlimited domestic calls to any phone all in the one fee.

In addition to the device, the included a free voice mail account and a free US telephone number, which is important since I spend so much time overseas.

Installation
installation was very easy. I plug the device into my computer on at the USB port and the Magic Jack software installed automatically.

After a brief update, I plugged my telephone into the plug on th device and it was ready to go. Surprisingly when I picked up the telephone I had a dial tone immediately and was able to place a call.

So does it work
In short yes MagicJack works very well considering the inexpensive cost. My first test call using the telephone through MagicJack resulted in a call that was very clear and easy to understand. The initial call was clearer than most cell phone conversations and nearly to the level of using a landline. I experienced no voice delay as I had with other VO IP applications.

After testing several calls, I've concluded that Magic Jack is at least as good as most cell phone providers. Using the telephone handset I've had great results with the quality of my phone calls.

When using a cheap computer headset, the call on my end was clear, but sometimes the other end had static. For best results use Magic Jack with the telephone handset.

For a more difficult task I placed a call overseas. Dialing from the US to an overseas number is not free of charge so I did need to set up an account with Magic Jack and pay for the minutes I used. Magic at rates to most countries is quite reasonable. This call went fairly well, but since the cell phone reception on the other end was for, sometimes it was hard to hear on the call. Surprisingly, there was little delay between speaking and hearing. While overseas, I placed several calls to US telephone numbers. These calls are free of charge on Magic Jack, making this an outstanding bargain for travelers. Most of the calls I placed were very clear although occasionally the person I was talking to would have trouble hearing and a small delay would occasionally occur between speaking and hearing. Overall, the quality is again comparable to the cell phone reception I was getting in the same country.

Conclusion

I am quite please with Magic Jack. The sound quality has ranged from excellent to adequate, the price is amazing, and I've been able to place and receive US calls while I'm overseas. MagicJack will require a broadband connection and your call quality will vary depending on the quality of your Internet connection. Overall I've had no calls were I could not communicate, and many calls where it was almost like being on a landline.

If you're interested in Magic Jack, the one mistake I made was buying it in the store. If purchased online, Magic Jack comes with a 30 day trial that is completely risk-free, and is available online for less than the costs in the store. As long as you have a broadband connection, give Magic Jack to try, it is risk-free and they have proven to be a reliable and quality company.

Jack Soccio was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He is a multi-genre business man, who has done everything from real estate, loans and mortgages, to entertainment in the music industry, to promotions, and event planning. He opened his very own nutraceutical plant in New York and ran his own company. By the age of 25 he moved to Las Vegas, Nevada to open up is second nutraceutical plant. Both plants quickly grew to become the largest vitamin company in the world and went on to take over the nutraceutical world and become the Largest manufacture in the world all within about a year. Jack has been able to turn purchasing into an art form. Everything he has done and accomplished came from within. He is a go-getter and chases after what he wants and does not take no for an answer.

Jack has donated millions of dollars to charitable foundations such as the Make a Wish Foundation, Cure for Cancer, Candlelighters, Harlem Globetrotters, and Drug Awareness.

He has set up famous athletes to meet sick children in the hospital such as seven time world champion boxer Larry Holmes and the world's hardest hitting boxer Ernie Schavers, to name a few. He chose to be a charitable person and feels the more you give the more that comes back to you. Like a river, you have to keep it flowing; that is why they call money currency. He believes in Karma and the more you give, the more good things will happen to you. Jack would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their time and efforts in raising all his charitable donations for such great causes.

He is an avid dog lover & had 9 canines at one time. Jack currently has a rescue dog named Scarlett who he nicknamed the "Million Dollar Dog". Not only is she priceless to him, but she has caused so much damage in his house it could easily be a million dollars worth. She knows that "Daddy" won't get her in trouble so she can chew & bite on whatever she wants. Then there is Bentley who is a very playful Pit bull, a good protector, and all he wants to do is eat. Jack's prized possession dog was Henry who passed away about a year ago. He was a trained K-9 protection dog who had earned 3x World Championships in Protection also fully trained Service dog that was trained under every certification there is, In 2006 was The year of the dog in china hence there was a movie made in which the protection dog in it was none other than Henry as he spent 2 months in Hollywood filming. The King as he was known as Mr.Henry went everywhere with him. He would ride first class in his very own seat on every airplane that Jack was ever on. Henry would go into stores and restaurants with him and was always right there by his side. Wherever Jack went, Henry would be there too. Losing him was devastating. Now Jack wears a dog tag around his neck with a picture of Henry to keep him close to his heart.

At first glance, he may appear to be a bodybuilder, but he has never participated in that sport. He is very muscular and his definition comes from being an athlete. He is able to find a healthy balance between being a successful business man and a great athlete. Some people say he looks like a "tough guy" but deep down he has a big heart and really wants to help people.

He is an avid sports goer and enjoys football, baseball, basketball, & freestyle skiing. He was drafted to play for the Junior Development Olympic Sports Team for skiing. He considers himself more of a snowbird than a beach goer, but his dogs are encouraging him to enjoy the beach a little more. He also got drafted straight out of high school to play football and got offered a 25 million dollar contract. He turned it down with the attitude that he could make that same amount of money with one business deal. Besides, he would much rather own the team than be a player on the team.

Stay positive and it spills into your actions. YOU are the only one who sets limits on your life; to say what you can and cannot have. He has set no limits for himself so he has been able to attain anything he ever wanted. The only difference between being ordinary and being extraordinary is that little "extra". He has never worked for anyone in the traditional sense, and has been a businessman his whole life.

QTV were lucky enough to interview the artist Jack Vettriano at the Elephant Parade Auction, where his Elephant raised a lot of money for the Elephant Family Charity.

Leading Scottish artist Jack Vettriano OBE has today given his backing to SNP Leader and Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond. In a specially recorded interview for this weekend's SNP Conference Vettriano who says he is not "a political animal" talks about his first meeting with Alex Salmond and backs him as Scotland's First Minister for a second term. Interviewed in his studio the Fife born painter talks about his view of Alex Salmond: "As they say in political parlance he's a safe pair of hands and I think he cares deeply for the Scottish nation and the people of Scotland. Anybody I speak to up in Scotland says that he's done a great job and sometimes I watch him on Scottish TV in Parliament and he wipes the floor with everybody. He's great on his feet. "He's the man for the job. "Anyone who can cut 15 minutes off my journey time from Edinburgh airport to Kirkcaldy by ending the bridge tolls is the man for me." Reflecting on his first meeting with the First Minister at a charity event at Duff House in Banffshire, Vettriano adds; "My first impressions were that he was a genuinely approachable sort of person, he wasn't in any way disengaged from the company he was with, very much a team player and I like that a lot about him - and he likes a good laugh and of course so do I. Born in Fife, Scotland in 1951, Jack Vettriano left school at sixteen to become a mining engineer. For his twenty-first birthday, a girlfriend gave him a set of watercolour paints and, from then on, he spent much of his spare time teaching himself to paint. In 1989, he submitted two paintings to the Royal Scottish Academy's annual exhibition; both were accepted and sold on the first day. The following year, an equally enthusiastic reaction greeted the three paintings, which he entered for the prestigious Summer Exhibition at London's Royal Academy and his new life as an artist began from that point on. Over the last twenty years, interest in Vettriano's work has grown consistently. There have been sell-out solo exhibitions in Edinburgh, London, Hong Kong and New York.
